As Reiki practitioners, we acknowledge that we are a channel for connecting to the energy of Divinity/Spirit/Source etc and that energy flows through us into the client.
When we talk of Reiki energy, a Reiki practitioner might say they “feel” the energy as heat or pulsing within them or the client. Others may “see” the energy as colour or images.
I recently had some aura photography done, by Deb and Grant (www.giftoftheuniverse.com.au) at Mind Body and Soul (The Esplanade Mooloolaba, opp the surfclub) and thought it would be a great experiment to see if we could capture Reiki energy, visually.
Aura photography is used to capture the energy around a person, appearing in different colours based on what is going on emotionally, spiritually and physically for that person. Deb then gives a great reading based on these colours and how you can use this insight into finding clarity and purpose within your life.
I asked Deb to take my photo as I sat relaxed and not focused on anything in particular.
Then immediately after this photo was taken, I asked Deb to take another as I connected totally to Reiki energy,using the sacred symbols and connecting to Spirit.

This is the result. For me, these photos show what Reiki energy is. In the first photo there are many colours, and the reading confirmed personality traits, strengths weaknesses that I was holding at that time. Minutes later when I drew down the Reiki energy, in prayer, our human self along with ego, fears and flaws is replaced by the Divine. Pure love.

The Usui system of Reiki was discoverd in the mid 1800’s by Dr Mikao Usui, a Japanese teacher of a Christian School in Kyoto, Japan. It is said that through study, research and meditation, Dr Usui had an experience of empowerment that lead to the development of Reiki as a healing system. Usui devoted the rest of his life to practising and teaching this gentle art of healing and worked extensively with healing the beggars and lepers.
Reiki is a non invasive, gentle, yet powerful method of healing.
